 GRANT RECEIVED

The Patton Pavers received a $2,750 grant from the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts redistributed by the Pennsylvania Rural Arts Alliance.  These monies will be used for :

Project Title: Hometown Celebration of the Arts.
   Date: July 4, 2003
   Location: Patton Park.
Festival Hours: 10 Am to 4PM

The Patton Pavers received an enthusiastic response at the general meeting that discussed plans for the Hometown Celebration of the Arts.  The goals of the project are to showcase the artistic endeavors of local artists / musicians, (both amateur and professional) and to introduce the community to a wide array of local art forms. These will include:

  • Art exhibits featuring local adult, elementary and high school artists.
  • A fly fishing/fly-tying exhibit, promoting this art form on local waterways.
  • An Heirloom Garden display with a local Master Gardener giving tours and talks.
  • Children’s Art Center featuring a Story Teller, a life-size chess display/demonstration, a scrap book station where children will be able to create their own scrap books of the event using digital cameras and art supplies, as well as other artistically inspired stations for young creative minds and to explore.
  • Free public concerts featuring a polka band and another featuring folk music in the park band shell.
  • An artist doing free cartoon portraits

A mural of the old town railroad station (Pictured on the left) painted in the downtown area will be unveiled.  Trolley rides will provide an historic tour of Patton, stopping at the mural, and will be conducted by a guide in period costume. All passengers will receive a brochure on Patton’s history.

Accomplishments

* The Patton Pavers were incorporated as a non-profit group as of July 2002. We also have a checking account with NBOC.
* Thanks to the leg work of the Pavers, the paperwork has been started for the purchase of the Top Hat building, which has been empty for years.
* During the spring and summer cleanup days of 2002, we:

  • Boarded up the upstairs door and window inside of the State Store.
  • Cleaned up garbage and weeded the pavement in downtown Patton.
  • Painted garbage cans.
  • Painted Cammarata's Buildings.
  • Paitned the laundromat.
  • Decorated the windows of the State Store to help brighten up the community.

Volunteers from Maine finished painting the top trim of Dr. Murray's old office and the hair dressers. They also weeded bricks in sidewalks and around small trees. Thank You's were sent to the volunteers.

Our organization is working in conjunction with the Borough Council, Chamber of Commerce and Patton Recreation Committee. Since we are not financed by tax dollars, we are able to accomplish the work on Private Property to help beautify the community.
